Training Heart Rate
To calculate your training heart rate, you need to know your
resting heart rate (or pulse) and your maximum heart rate. Here
are three ways of working this out:
1) Maximum heart rate = 217 – (0.85 x your age)
2) Maximum Heart Rate = 220 – your age
3) Maximum Heart Rate = 220 – RHR then x 0.6 + your age
(0.6 = 60%, 0.7 = 70%, 0.8 = 80%, and 0.9 = 90%)
If you have a very low heart rate, or you’re very fit, the
third method is the best one to use. Otherwise, use the first
or second. You can adjust to the third in a year’s time
when you’re fitter.
